Top 3 Personal Finance Must Follows

Play ball

1 – Ramit Sethi – I Will Teach You To Be Rich

I picked up Ramit’s book I Will Teach You To Be Rich at the library shortly after starting my first job out of college. The title gives off “get rich quick/scam” vibes, but it’s anything but that. Ramit gives very actionable tactical practices to manage your money, but his big separator that I learn from is understanding how to use money to live a fulfilling life. If you’re living your life on a spreadsheet is it really worth living?

2 – Dave Ramsey – The Dave Ramsey Show

Dave is a legend in the personal finance field. If you’re in debt he has a proven system that can get you out. He leans on a more conservative/long term approach to building wealth. He is criticized for his hatred of credit cards, however, the base of his followers are those who are in debt and likely cannot use a credit card responsibly (reminder – pay your credit card in full every month, no exceptions).

Even with the hate some have of Dave the principles he teaches cannot be argued against. Don’t spend more than you make, do not have debt, build long term wealth.

3 – The Money Guys

The Money guys philosophy probably falls somewhere between Ramit and Dave Ramsey. They still believe in getting out of debt, build an emergency fund, and invest long term, but they do a great job providing pathways for each individual based on their situation/risk tolerances. They have a Youtube video for just about any money scenario or question you have.

I pick and choose best practices from each of these three and then apply what I think is best for my family.

And you’re out. Have a great week
