How I Don’t Get Fat & Lazy Over The Holidays, Your Workouts Should Be Intense, Social Media is Killing Us

Play ball and Happy Thanksgiving

1 – How I Am Protecting My Fitness During Holidays

  1. Increase water consumption. If you’re full of water you will be less likely to feel hungry
  2. Sub alcoholic drinks with calorie free mocktails/other alternatives. I haven’t had a drink in 10 months, but subbing a fun flavored sparkling water will keep you hydrated, less calories consumed, and no hangovers. Spindrifts & Poppi are stocked.
  3. Mini workouts – times are busy, but taking 15-20 minutes to move everyday keeps things moving. My favorite is 100 burpees for time. Or 5 push ups, 10 sit ups, 15 squats as many times in 10-15 minutes
  4. Prioritize meats and veggies. When filling up my plate my first serving will be mostly meats and veggies. Once I have that down I let myself have normal servings of whatever is offered.
  5. Post meal walks – having young kids this is an easy one. It forces me into a little more movement for the day.

All that said… don’t be afraid to enjoy yourself. Just do so in moderation.

2 – Intensity = King – Found My Fitness Podcast

I am excited for this full podcast to release. CrossFit was built on intensity. It’s the best practice to drive adaption in our body. This isn’t a new concept, but it’s always fun to hear the science tied back into the real world application I see as a coach.

“Emerging evidence suggests that all minutes of exercise are not created equal. One minute of vigorous effort may deliver the same health impact as 4–9 minutes of guideline-approved “moderate” activity.”

3 – Social Media Use Increases Depression and Loneliness

As we head into the time of the year when many feel depressed and anxious one thing to consider is taking a break from your apps (I do this in waves throughout the year). This article is a good reminder that human connection has to be cared for and protected. The world isn’t getting any less crazy. Don’t let your social feed fill your brain with unnecessary drama.
