1 – Crossfit Level 2 Certification

Last weekend, I completed my CrossFit Level 2 Certification at CrossFit Buckhead in Atlanta, GA. I had just hit my one-year anniversary of coaching and decided to “treat” myself by attending the two-day course. I started coaching for a few reasons – 1) It’s fun, 2) It’s a great activity to challenge myself to learn, and 3) I want to give back to the people in our community just as the coaches throughout my life have done.

CrossFit’s team structured the weekend with a mix of in-class teaching sessions and hands-on coaching development drills. It was nerve-wracking to be put on display in front of other trainers, but if you can set your ego aside and embrace the mindset that the goal is to make mistakes, receive feedback, apply that feedback, and repeat the process, you’ll truly benefit from the course. This cycle is the pursuit of virtuosity

“Lack of intentionality leads to a repetition of what is easiest.” – Nick Bare

This quote resonated with me when I initially signed up for the L2. Every class I lead, I make a conscious effort to create an intentional plan, execute it to the best of my ability, and then reassess. I know that in order to improve my classes, I must continue developing my coaching skills. The L2 is the perfect place for coaches to do just that. The red shirts (CrossFit’s instructors) meet you at your current level and provide meaningful feedback to help you progress.

“Do the best you can until you know better. Then when you know better, do better.” – Maya Angelou

Now that I’ve completed the course, this quote feels even more relevant. Over the weekend, I received tremendous feedback—not just positive reinforcement for the things I’ve been doing well, but also valuable critiques on areas for improvement. I’m leaving this experience with new tools and knowledge in my coaching toolbox that will help me refine my skills.

Now, it’s up to me to implement what I’ve learned and provide the best possible experience for our gym’s members.

2 – Carfia Sunglasses –

If you’re like me and constantly lose or break sunglasses, these are perfect. They’re affordable enough that replacing them won’t hurt your wallet, yet the quality is surprisingly great. I first discovered them after reading about them on Dappered.com, and I was impressed.

The lenses are polarized, which is a huge plus. In my opinion, these sunglasses hold their own against some of the more expensive pairs I’ve owned (and lost) over the years.

3 – Epic Provisions

We have back-to-back weekends of traveling, and one of my go-to travel snacks are Epic Provisions Meat Bars or Sticks. They taste great, contain no added/limited sugar, and pack a solid amount of protein.

My two favorites are the venison bars and the wagyu beef strips. They are a bit pricey, but for me, it’s worth it—grabbing one of these to satisfy my cravings is much better than reaching for a bag of candy or chips.

And you’re out. Have a great week
